Chicago case of reputed mobsters goes to jury Witness testifies that these people killed and were very brutal

CHICAGO -- For 10 weeks, the Family Secrets trial has mesmerized this city and opened a window into the workings of Chicago's organized crime operation known as the Outfit. "This is not The Sopranos. This is not The Godfather," Assistant U.S. Attorney John Scully told jurors on the first day of the trial in June. Yet testimony about grisly killings, family betrayals and secret ceremonies sometimes seemed borrowed from those fictional dramas. "This is real. These people killed and were very brutal," said Jim Wagner, who tracked the Mob for 31 years as an FBI agent. He is president of the Chicago Crime Commission and testified for the prosecution about the Outfit's structure.
